The Beginning
If you’re receiving this email, it’s because you, or someone you know, is involved in Duluth’s Strong Towns Local Conversation. The Duluth Citizen’s Initiative proudly hosts this event each month. Below is the mission statement of Strong Towns, which we believe and advance:
“We seek to replace America’s postwar pattern of development, the Suburban Experiment, with a pattern of development that is financially strong and resilient. We advocate for cities of all sizes to be safe, livable and inviting. We work to elevate local government to be the highest level of collaboration for people working together in a place, not merely the lowest level in a hierarchy of governments.”The
The Duluth Citizens’ Initiative exists to provide a place for Duluthians to discuss, ideate, and dream of ways to promote human flourishing in our city. Our goal is to study the established pattern of development that has led to this current “Suburban Experiment”, identify inconsistencies between the current experimental pattern and the historical pattern of community building, and discuss projects that would decrease auto-dependency and promote human-scale development, bringing health and wealth to our community. We focus on educating ourselves on our city's issues from every angle, and forming a coherent plan for action. We love our town and only want to make it better. Duluth is an old place, built on generations of advancement through dedicated and passionate citizens. We seek to further that advance.
We’ll be posting here from time to time sending out interesting thoughts on developments throughout the city and promoting what the DCI believes in. If you’re interested in becoming more involved or contributing, let us know.
